Diving For A Cause (DFAC) in Northern New Zealand
Terry Maas along with local guide Joshua Yorke, Aquarius Charters will lead a team of divers on a 4 day diving trip to the famous dive sites off Bay of Plenty in Northern New Zealand. Species of fish that are sought after are the Yellowtail Kingfish, Snapper, John Dory, Trevally and Pink Mao Mao. Also if you are lucky you might come across a pod of Pilot Whales!
Terry Maas will be leading the team of DFAC participants.
While the divers spend 4 days spearfishing, their catch will be harvested and donated to the local community. In addition, the team will be spending a group community service day shopping and filling backpacks loaded with toys, coloring books, crayons, pens, pencils, and large cuddly stuff animals for the children at the Women's Refuge Center.
Participants will have 3 days to explore and sightsee Northern New Zealand at their own pace. Housing will be available for the entire 10 days for the DFAC team. We will dive on the best 4 days for spearfishing between January 13-20, 2025 and then have time to sightsee and give back to the local community.
These trips are for 10 days, 2 days are your arrival day and departure day, and include 4 full days of spearfishing, housing for the 9 nights, and since we can now fly straight to Tauranga or Rotorua, your choice, the transportation is shared among the group. It is a short 40 minute ride to O Hope. Participants can share a ride with each other, or arrange their own rental car. Our housing has changed to Ohope Beach Resort. This property is 2 minutes walk from the beach. Relax in the pool or by the poolside at this luxury complex, featuring magnificent views from most suites. On-site facilities include 2 hot tubs, a fitness center, a sauna, a games room and a petanque court. Wifi as well.
Each 2 bedroom condominium at Ohope Beach Resort includes a spacious open-plan living area for 4 adults, 2 private bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, satellite TV and laundry facilities. The fully equipped kitchens have a dishwasher, microwave, and oven.Spacious decks, outside seating, sunset views.
The cost is $2900 per diver and includes:
1.Spearfishing for 4 full days
2.Housing at the beautiful OHope Beach Resort for the 10 days stay. Couples have their own private bedroom and bathroom and single individuals will share a 2 bedroom and bathroom. Please let me know if you are single and wish to pay extra for your own private bedroom, that is an option.
3.Meals-are on your own, but we all shared the cooking and ate together, bringing our favorite recipes to the table, or we choose to eat at a local restaurant.The kitchens are beautiful and we all laughed and dined together. New Zealand wines, chocolates, and sunsets are wonderful!

5.Includes a donation of 5 backpacks from each participant
Spearfishermen may bring their non-diver partners for $1100.
While the diver is spearfishing, their partner will have the option to participate in various activities, zip lining, water rafting, horse back riding, SUP, kayak, explore the countryside, hike along the beach, relax by the pool or in the hot tubs.
These costs are the sole responsibility of each participant and are paid on arrival to New Zealand:
1.Airfare to Tauranga or Rotorua, New Zealand.
2.Car rental- book your own car, or share the car rental costs if you are teaming up with another diver.
3.Prepare your own breakfasts, lunch is on the boat, dinners we can collectively cook together or go out and enjoy the local restaurants. We have plenty of fresh fish! The grocery stores are right down the street from us.
4.Any costs while participants are out sightseeing the countryside of Northern New Zealand.You can choose to extend your stay and explore the southern island before you fly home. Your choice.
Please submit Application by August 30, 2024: Deposit of $1200 is due with Liability Release and Express Assumption of Risk Form by August 30. 2024. Non diver deposit is $500
Final payment of $1700 balance is due November 30, 2024. Non diver is $600 balance.
Community Service: Couple days of shopping and filling the backpacks for the Women's Refuge Center. Participants who don't spearfish can choose to kayak in front of the condo, and the fish they catch can also be donated with the spearfisherman to the Refuge Shelter.
Refund Policy: I understand that Diving For A Cause will incur costs associated with reservations of boats and hotel to facilitate my participation in this event. I further understand that all of these costs are nonrefundable to DFAC. As such, in the event of my cancellation, and if I am unable to get a replacement, I recognize that the fees paid to Diving For A Cause in payment of my participation may be non-refundable. Diving For A Cause will work diligently to find a replacement and work with the participant who had to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances.
